Orientation Week - 3rd Jan 2006 to 7th Jan 2006
this year's beautiful theme for Orientation, 'Kaleidoscope of Life'.
been looking forward to this Orientation Week ever since OGL camp ended! Family 6 mascot, Mr Bean's teddy! i'll intro my fellow OGLs & my OG 30.

some OGLs stationed at nearby MRT stations like Lakeside, Jurong East, BoonLay to usher lost JC1s. other just stationed at nearby bus-stops & along the walkway, canteen, locker areas to welcome the JC1s & usher them up to the hall. first two days were admin days, so it's mainly talks by different subject teachers, & subject booths, plus all the registration of classes etc. & the usual ice-breakers during OG time. taught them cheers & our house-signs etc. their syllabus is different from ours. more subjects, more complicated. most of them wore this bored look from all the talks, & so were us OGLs.

Camp Day 1
the fun starts here! mass ice-breaker was this Bingo Game which i think the councillors took the idea from GradNight. after that we had Mass Dance session. there were more girls than guys, thus some girls just dance with each other. was appointed to be food i/c for my family, had to report 1 hour before meals to the canteen & help prepare the food. first meal, really hectic. the 6 of us, (food i/cs) were trying to get everything right, re-counted the packets of food, fork & spoons, packet drinks, trash bags etc. there wasnt enough spoons, drinks, mis-counted etc. but it got better, cos we started packing for individual OGs instead of for the whole family. was more organised after that. same for the drinks & spoons. there were a few hiccoughs along the way, cos OGL representatives from each OG tend to take the wrong bag of food. so us food i/cs had to run all over the place, to & fro to scout for extra packets of food. there was hardly enough time for me to eat throughout this camp, & i supposed that goes for fellow food i/cs as well. we had to bring out the trash after meals & so on.
we had 'The Actual Story' (all OGs were to perform a short play, rather time consuming),

then 'Afternoon Heats'. halfway through 'Afternoon Heats', it started raining, & everyone packed into the hall again, waiting for their turn to complete the 'air-soccer' station. some fotos!
& mass jog was cancelled too. lucky ducks. love the night game! it's a masterpiece indeed. the councillors painted this gi-normous Snake&Ladder board game! 
there was much running around the school again, but it was loads of fun. singing session after that, & it was entertaining, & soothing. this year's song for the camp, 'That's where you find love' by Westlife.
Camp Day 2
Action packed. running all over the sch, trying to find missing JC1s, items & my teddy mascot. ran into several classmates & friends while rushing from places to places. hearts! miss hanging out with them. during Mass Dance session, had gastric probably because i hadnt eaten anything. but thanks YueFeng for buying food from K-box for me! life-saver!
Telematch! yesh, our pretty new synthetic field. no flour nor soap water nor fruits nor mud involved this time, else Chairman Mao will be hopping mad!
but shortly after it began, had to rush off to prepare food for family with the other food i/cs. so didnt get to join in the fun. after lunch was World Of Combat! (a.k.a World War III during my own orientation) group fotos taken at the different stations. smiles. 
my personal fav station is Wild Wild Wet'. entire netball court was kinda flooded with soap water & foam, & there were benches & tables to slide across. it started drizzling lightly, & all were called back to Grandstand. strangely, the rain stopped, & games resumed. but i had to return to food i/c duties. dinner was chaotic, but the JC1s started helping out in carrying out the trash. despite having to run to & fro, dinner-time was longer than usual, & i finally got to sit down & eat with them. or rather, they watched me since they had long finished their food. saw classmates & friends goingfor JJ nite, like HongYue, Adelyn, Sharm, LaLa, him & his CCA friends, LeAnn, Rachel, Grace, Evelyn etc. i had a great time interacting with my OG during dinner. they started telling me stuff like how i looked like a rabbit/kangaroo (cos of the pouch us OGLs had to carry around at all times, but cos i was jumping quite alot, so look more kangaroo-ish)/ giraffe (how did that came about? but i liked that. tall what.)
JJ nite was hell loads of fun & noises. & the hall was beautifully decorated! there were light-sticks suspended in mid-air, near the ceiling, by plenty of balloons. & check the big collage! beautiful and really awesome!

the new vice-principal was actually outside the hall, looking in, & he was impressed by our spirit. we were all hyped up & really enthu at the climax of JJ nite. non-stop dancing & singing & cheering. & he asked the teachers-in-charge if we'll be this hyped up too in NS. it's the kinda spirit he likes. as the night drew nearer towards its end, most of us started crying. damn. they always do that to us. Mr Leow started his really touching, heart-stirring speech. & we just started crying. it was super throw face to be crying when he was that near to me. red-nose & eyes, & already am fugly enough. & we were given about 10mins i think, to find our OG, hugged them & said thank you. made things worst. when finally all JC1s settled down at their respective families, us OGLs continued standing by the side as usual. YueFeng & Jeffery were next to me, & YueFeng kept telling me not to cry. perhaps cos it's not nice to show this crying side to the JC1s. had to prepare supper for them after that. it was a rush cos all us food i/cs completely forgot about the time, so supper was kinda delayed. but Mr Leow didnt reprimand us at all.after the JC1s turned in, OGLs gathered for another debrief from Mr Leow again. we asked for extra time to finish up the gifts we were preparing for our OGs, & he promised 2 hours only, cos he didnt want us to feel too tired the next day. but in the end, he let us carried on throughout the entire night. he told us this on the last day. he actually spied on us, & saw that we were all frantically trying to finish up the gifts, & he couldnt bear to stop us when some of the OGLs started crying cos they couldnt finish. my OGLs, Abbas & GangYi were there too. consulted them about E-web while helping out with the gift tokens. was helping Sally with her gifts, but knocked out completely by about 4 or 5am plus.
Camp Day 3
but had to wake up again at 5.30am. so didnt get much sleep anyway. chaotic breakfast since most OGLs didnt get enough sleep. food i/cs were confused, kept re-counting...
E-web (emotional web) - exchange of any words of gratitude, sharing of thoughts & tears. we started crying again cos it was really sad.
WeeLing sum up the final concluding statement, "let OG30 be bonded, not by this mere raffia, but by the time we shared together, moments of joy, tears, hardship & happiness, be forever. thank you to all of you!" & we cried. we're not just connected to each other by the raffia string, & as we give & take, we became closer. there's a stronger bond beneath all the tangled up string. yesh, we are tangled up. yesh, we are connected. we are all connected & bonded & tangled in something call love.
we returned to the hall for a final singing session, OGLs standing together in a circle around the JC1s, & swaying to the music. it was really heart warming & i had the urge to join my OG, despite that we were told to stand by the side. just wanted to be with them. slowly, the rest follow suit. we put our arms around one another & swayed to the beat as one, one OG30. after break camp, went around taking fotos of the house walls & banners.
we had another debrief from Mr Leow again, & as we left the hall, our OG was waiting for us in the canteen. some were nodding off, obviously tired, thus we post-poned our lunch. cant wait for our OG outing. hearts.

JJ orientation truly rocks! & this is a standard which i'm sure no other schools will surpass. heard about other school camps from friends in other jcs, & JJ really does sound the BEST! [starts singing JJ sukiyaki song] though perhaps our school results/academics aint that fantastic/glamorous. 3 days is too short!! i cant bear to leave them. but still, i'm dead tired! didnt get enough sleep since OGL camp till now!! past two weeks had been really hectic..like OGL camp, then Gradnight, & Orientation. & you know what? i stink. we all did. no wait..most of us OGLs that is. we didnt bathe at all. throughout the entire camp. hahahaa!! school starts officially for me next week! missing the morning meet-ups with Elaine! cant wait to meet up again with her on Monday & to attend classes with my class again! ^^
